A friend of mine recently renovated her entire home. (And it’s AHMAAAZING) Once they were rid of contractors, she didn’t even want to think about having to make a million decisions all over again to decorate. I love that she is taking time to address the needs of each space in her house, and see how it is working for them now.
One of the new spaces that they haven’t used much before, was this lovely space in front of their family room fireplace. I had talked her into modern wingbacks to flank this little leather loveseat and create a cozy spot to read or visit or enjoy a fire.
The entire room is painted the same color (BM Stonington Gray), but we felt that setting off this area with color might help define it from the sofa/tv area to its left (not seen in these photos).
She really wanted to keep things neutral and eventually add all the colorful art they have been collecting over the years. She wanted to see what it would be like to simply paint the middle FP wall.
Option 1: Middle wall painted a darker grey
Option 2: Middle wall painted only slightly darker, and FP painted charcoal
Option 3: FP Stays white, wall is slightly darker, Built-ins are charcoal grey
Option 4: FP and Built-ins go dark; center wall is only slightly darker than original
Do you have a favorite? My client and her husband were able to look through all of their options and pick their favorite! Mine is this last one, but love the warmth that the dark wood adds to the space.
